While reviewing the accountancy services news today online I came across two interesting articles.

The first related to payroll services and the fact that Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP) reports that one in ten people do not understand all the entries on their pay slip.

Mr Lindsay Melvin, Chief Executive of the IPP, said: “Understanding all the details and figures in one’s payslip is the only way to be completely sure that you are getting paid correctly. In reality, error rates are very low but knowing your payslip inside and out is the best way to be able to spot mistakes or miscalculations.”

The second piece of accounting news that caught my eye was the Guardian article that reported that accounting rules may force companies to disclose their impact on the environment.

This is an interesting idea, and as long as there are clear metrics involved and suitable financial reporting mechanisms than this is possible, however this may impact on accounting fees as, essentially accountancy services will need to do more work – a particular problem if they are charging y the hour.
